The September Skin Check-In

Hello Beautiful,

September is a good time to stop and look.

Not with criticism. Not with the sharp eye that finds every flaw. With genuine curiosity, the way a caring esthetician would look at your skin, seeing what the season has asked of it and what it might need going forward.

A September skin check-in is a gift you give yourself. It tells you what has shifted, what needs attention, and what to bring with you into the months ahead.

What to look for

Take five minutes with good light and a clean face. You are looking at four things.

Tone and brightness. Does your skin look more uneven than it did in July? Are dark spots that seemed faded in spring more visible now? Summer UV stimulates melanin even on the days you wore SPF diligently, and repeated exposure across a season deepens the spots you had and creates new ones.

Texture. Does your skin feel rougher than it did earlier this summer? Are your pores more visible? Is there a dullness that sits on the surface rather than coming from within? Dead cell accumulation, sun exposure and dehydration all contribute to it.

Firmness and bounce. Press gently on your cheek and release. Does your skin spring back immediately, or does it take a moment? Firmness changes with age and with hormonal shifts, and a summer of heat and UV can speed collagen loss temporarily.

Comfort. How does your skin feel by midday? Tight? Oily in some places and dry in others? Reactive to products it used to tolerate? A barrier under stress often feels exactly like that.

What your skin is telling you

Each of these signals points to something specific.

Uneven tone and dark spots. Vitamin C, SPF, and gentle exfoliation.

Rough texture. A mild AHA two evenings a week, and hydration you actually keep up with.

Loss of firmness. Peptides, ceramides, and a focused barrier repair phase.

Reactive or uncomfortable skin. Simplify. Basics only. Restore the barrier before you reintroduce any actives.

You do not need to address everything at once. Pick the one that bothers you most and start there.

This is not a moment to be hard on yourself. Summer is one of the most demanding seasons for menopause skin. Looking clearly at where you are now, as fall settles in, is the first step to knowing where you are going.

Where today’s four signals lead next…

You just looked at four things: tone, texture, firmness, and comfort. That is not a coincidence. Your skin cells do four jobs every day, and each of those signals is one of them telling you it has slowed down.

Here is how the four fit together, and which one is yours.

If texture or firmness was the one that bothered you most, that is renewal, and I have written you four weeks of it. One email a week, a nine-page guide to keep, and no cost. Start your four weeks here.
